Many experts are expecting iPhone 5 release date UK and US to be September 2011. Way back in September the 1st 2010 the was Old news, it had actually been leaked early when an Apple employee left a test unit in a bar after celebrating his birthday, so by the time of Apples special event in September the iPhone 4 had been on sale for nearly three months. 2011 is a completely different story, Apple left us with bated breath in June with no hints as to when we can expect an update to the iPhone 4.
If this is true we could be looking at the iPhone 5 in less then two months so we thought now would be a good time to run through some of the likely improvements and wild rumours that have been flying around over the past 13 months.
iPhone 5 Rumours
Firstly the release date. iOS 5 has been announced and is due to hit iTunes in the Autumn of this year. It seems only right that the new OS has a new iPhone to do it justice. Several part manufacturers have also reported large orders from Apple for products that are required by Autumn. These reports have turned out to be quite accurate on previous iPhone releases so we’re confident that September is when the iPhone 5 will be launched.
We also have some assumptions based on the current market. Dual core processors are now becoming the norm with most high end handsets like the and sporting at least 1ghz dual core processors. We imagine the iPhone 5 will be running the same processor as the iPad 2 which is dual core and comparable in performance to the two aforementioned . iPhone 4 currently packs 512mb of RAM whilst 1 GB wouldn’t be too expensive or unrealistic today, so we imagine this will be upgraded. Although the iPhone 4 Camera is pretty good 5MP is a little low unless your offering 3D capabilities so 8MP would be expected especially to offer full 1080p video quality. A spokesperson for Sony has also been on record stating that Apple buy Sony’s best sensors for the iPhone. If this is to be believed, the best sensors would equate to an 8MP camera for the new iPhone.
The graphics should also be upgraded, the rumours are that Apple will increase the screen size to 4″ which again comes from component suppliers. This is also expected to be powered by a dual core GPU which would be able to output 1080p video like the iPad 2 currently does. All of these upgrades are fairly certain with plenty of sources backing up the claims, but to be honest you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to predict that the next iPhone is going to be an upgrade to the . Apple after all want to get current iPhone users to upgrade and stick with their smartphone.
It may not be called iPhone 5!
Now here are some of the more unsure rumors. No one really knows what the next iPhone will be called, although the iPhone 5 has become the most searched term on Google you shouldn’t forget Apple’s third iPhone was called the 3GS. If history repeats itself the iPhone 5 may in fact be called the iPhone 4S although the difference between the 3G and 3GS were minimal. We think the upgrades to the new iPhone will warrant a whole new name. Next to consider is the design. This is normally where Apple wow’s us. The iPhone has now gone through 3 designs all of which were unique to the marketplace when they were released. Apple’s iPad 2 really amazed the blogger-sphere by being incredibly thin, we think Apple will work it’s magic on the new iPhone as well. The current design of the iPhone 4 lead to some network issues due to the placement of the aerial on the outside rim so we’re guessing a total redesign as Engadget stated earlier in the year. It looks like we’ll have to wait until September until these rumurs get confirmed.

This app is still in Beta but if you want to check it out, it’s now available in Cydia. If you’re not familiar with Swype, it’s an alternative to traditional touchscreen typing. Instead of tapping each key, you start with the first letter of the word you’re typing and then drag it to each letter
The is now available through carphone warehouse and its sister companies including . This exciting new addition to the family is a bold and unusual smartphone because it is one of the first of its kind to offer glasses-free stereoscopic 3D to consumers in the palm of their hands. Of course it is simple to dismiss this kind of functionality as a gimmick, but in reality this kind of innovation is the driving force behind the mobile industry and thus the LG Optimus 3D is set to be a landmark launch.
Before the 3D capabilities are analysed it is necessary to look at the hardware to see whether the Optimus 3D is competitive with the vast majority of non-3D smartphones. Inside is a dual core processor from the Nvidia Tegra 2 family, identical to that present in the LG Optimus 2X. 8GB of storage is present along with the option to add more via microSD memory cards and 512MB of RAM gives it all the processing power you would expect from a cutting edge piece of mobile hardware.
On the front of the device is a 4.3 inch touchscreen display and a quartet of capacitive touch buttons that help users navigate around the Android 2.2 operating system which is preinstalled with the option to update to the newer 2.3 at a later date. Around at the back a set of twin five megapixel cameras with an LED flash are present, letting users capture stereoscopic 3D pictures and video, as well as full HD 1080p clips in 2D.
All of this hardware does make the phone a little bulkier and heavier than some of its rivals, but this is something that most users will accept in order to enjoy the impressive 3D features. An HDMI output allows for playback of clips on an HDTV and if you have a 3D-ready screen at home you can watch your videos in all their glory.
The good thing about the LG Optimus 3D is that you do not have to use the glasses-free 3D effects all the time. This is sensible since some users may not be able to experience them fully and others may suffer short term negative effects after a certain amount of viewing time. A physical button on the right side of the device brings up the 3D hub, letting you play 3D games, record in 3D and view the other 3D features. 3D movie playback is a real selling point of the Optimus 3D because it is something few other handsets can offer and an increasingly important aspect with the increasing number of 3D titles arriving at cinemas.
LG has struck a deal with video streaming site YouTube that allows users to send their captured 3D clips straight to their account with the service. It will also encourage users to playback 3D clips on their mobile phones and should help build a community of 3D viewers and content creators which might otherwise have been difficult to foster. The phone really makes the most of the 4.3 inch display whether in 2D or 3D mode, with the latter being aided greatly because of its sheer size.
It is important to remember that aside from all the 3D-related tomfoolery the phone still packs in plenty of other features to excite consumers. High speed connectivity is assured with Wi-Fi and 3G onboard, whilst the web browser with Flash support really flies along thanks to the number crunching supremacy of the dual core processor.
There is no doubt that the is something of an experimental handset, but with high end features and the future-proof option for 3D playback it is definitely aiming to make its mark.

Computerworld reviewer Michael deAgonia calls the new 27-inch
iMac “a thoroughly modern all-in-one computer, with a sharp, bright screen that’s perfect for editing movies, organizing/editing photos, watching streaming video or making your own presentations.” Citing its minimalist design, enhanced performance from Sandy Bridge processors and AMD graphics chips, and the “very important addition” of Thunderbolt data transfer capabilities, deAgonia concludes: “Apple has delivered a solid update to what was already a popular and successful line.”
