Archives for i8700 category

You may remember a post last week about the Samsung i8700, a handset which looks set to be the first Windows Phone 7 offering from Sammy; a handset which has since popped up on video. Whilst the video doesn’t confirm anything we didn’t already know it does give us another look, albeit quite out of focus, at the WP7 menus, systems and some of the applications we can expect.

The first application of interest that we’re shown is a ‘Maps’ application, the i8700 appears to be incredibly smooth as the user pans seamlessly around various locations on the map. Multi-touch pinch zooming is incredibly smooth with no lag whatsoever and almost instant rendering. The same can be said for the browser it would seem, pages appear to load very quickly with effortless navigation and no need for page rendering. We also get a glimpse at the Windows Market Place, Microsoft’s answer to the Apple Apple Store and the Android Market. We have to say, the Market Place does appear to be incredibly good looking and well thought out with simple swipe navigation. Here’s hoping the content in the Market Place mirrors the quality of its housing and that developer support grows quickly; the success of Windows Phone 7 could be heavily contingent on the availability of apps, especially considering the momentum that Android has gained recently.

The video of the i8700 in action would suggest that our initial predictions for the i8700 could indeed be correct, we could essentially be looking at a revamped Windows Phone 7 touting Galaxy S. Keep an eye on the blog for more details as they become available and Click Here to take a peek at the video yourself.

Over the past few weeks, it seems as though Microsoft and it’s many partners have been having some considerable issues keeping it’s latest handsets under wraps, so much so that come release day, we’re not sure how many of the handsets will actually be that much of a surprise. For those that are wondering by the way, Windows Phone 7 will be getting it’s offical launch on October 11th, a little over a month away.

Onto the latest in a long line of leaks then. This is said to be the Samsung i8700, we’re guessing it’ll be released with a slightly more memorable and interesting moniker come launch day, but it is arguably the best looking WP7 device we have seen to date. We don’t know a great deal about the phone with regards to specs but what the pictures do tell us, is that it’ll have an 8GB internal memory, it’ll be touchscreen only and that it’ll have a camera with a flash. If the ‘8700′ part of the model number is anything to go by, then we can expect this to be touting specs very similar to the Android powered Galaxy S aka the i9000.

That’s all we know for the moment, so in the meantime we’ll leave you to salivate over the pictures and be sure to keep your eye on the blog for more details as they emerge. (Source: Gizmodo)
