So there’s our wrap up of our favourite BlackBerry App World games. We’d love to know what you think on our page.
No we’re not blogging about the hit film of six unemployed Sheffield steel workers. The Full Monty is T-Mobiles latest tariff table which exposes you to everything; unlimited calls, texts AND data, starting at £36 per month.
As a generation we are now guzzling deeper into our tariff allowances, requiring more data for downloading games or streaming our favourite songs. Even that push Tweet notification will peck a byte or two from your data allowance. T-Mobile state that their Full Monty tariffs aim to “truly blow their customers socks off” by offering an enticing bargain that’s impossible to refuse.
The Full Monty will dance its way onto your smartphone from just £36 per month, offering unlimited texts, unlimited internet and 2000 minutes (that’s still nearly a day and a half of calls!). At just £41 per month, you can leave that cap off, as even the minutes have no limit. The additional tariffs of £46 or £61 per month, offer the same unlimited package but with a range of better smartphones and access to more gifts. Through mobiles.co.uk, you can get your hands on the iPhone 4S for free from £41 per month with unlimited EVERYTHING.
How does this compare to the One Plan from Three?
The £36 per month Full Monty deal directly tackles the One Plan from Three; which for £35 per month serves up 2000 minutes, 5000 texts and All You Can Eat data without the fair usage cap. One feature Full Monty provides over the One Plan is the option to tether your smartphone to your laptop or tablet. Tethering enables you to set your smartphone up as a Wi-Fi hotspot so your laptop can connect to the online world. With unlimited data available in the Full Monty package, could this deal tease customers into using a mobile internet connection over home broadband? T-Mobile’s latest offer could be a game changer in the way we purchase our data. Let’s hope the other networks respond with competitive deals in due course.
Greater clarity on choosing your Tariff
If you feel like you don’t need unlimited everything, then T-Mobile are renaming their data tariffs to cater for internet usage. There are four categories; Basic, Standard, Extra, and Super. Basic Intenet is ideal for those who don’t really use it except for the odd email or Facebook post. Standard Internet lets you cover a little YouTube comedy and is set for your low usage smartphone user. Extra internet is great for those who download lots of apps or stream BBC iPlayer and Super Internet is for the online addicts amongst us. Both Extra and Super internet let you tether.
So for those who want it all plus a little bit more, the unveiling of the Full Monty looks set to catch the attention of many.

Due to be released this spring is Sony’s latest smartphone creation; the Sony Xperia S. Having removed Ericsson from their name, this marks a fresh start for the Japanese juggernauts. Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month, we delve deep into the details of why this smartphone promises to be one of the top handset highlights for 2012. The flagship phone for Sony in 2012, it will directly take on the new and .
Hardcore Hardware
If smartphones were judged entirely by their figures and numbers, the Sony Xperia S would confidently challenge the top trumps of the mobile industry. The 1.5GHz dual core processor is 25% faster than the iPhone 4S or Samsung Galaxy S2. Its LED-backlit 4.3 inch display towers above Apple’s smartphone range and is complimented by the transparent LED illuminated strip that shows off the necessary navigation buttons. Armed with NFC technology, the Sony Xperia S is ready for the increased reliability smartphones will have in card transactions and augmented reality.
Ice Cream Sandwich OS
Nothing tastes sweeter than the ability to optimise your smartphones performance. Android’s latest OS, Ice Cream Sandwich, will help you get the most out of the meaty hardware encased within the Sony Xperia S.
PlayStation Certified
Being manufactured by Sony can only be a good thing when you consider they own one of the greatest games console franchises of all time. It’s great to see they’ve branded the Xperia S as a PlayStation Certified smartphone, giving you access to a whole library of PS1 classics tailored for smartphones.
In addition to the PlayStation Certified range, the Android Market provides over 300,000 apps at your disposal, including the PlayStation Classic, . Wherever you download your games, the Sony Xperia S will charge through their exhaustive demands without losing breath, thanks to its already praised 1.5GHz dual core processor.
Capture it all – Camera Specs
Worries in photo quality between camera smartphone and camera are phasing out for the casual happy snapper. Capturing 12 megapixel photos, the Sony Xperia S offers a resolution that’s competitive against standalone cameras. The inclusion of an Exmor R mobile CMOS sensor maximises light availability in your picture to help prevent dark and gloomy snaps. With a 1080p high definition rear facing camera, your video memories are sure to look crisp and detailed. There’s even a front facing camera perfect for video calls that captures it all in 720p high definition. To help achieve that perfect photo, the camera hardware is provided all the trimmings; touch focus, face detection, image stabilisation, geo-tagging, LED flash and 3D sweep panorama, making the Sony Xperia S a truly sensational camera smartphone.
Sony Xperia S UK release date
Not long to wait until the release day as the Sony Xperia S will be available in the UK at the start of March. For a full product spec and all the info on the Sony Xperia S, visit our .

We knew that dual core tech was coming, heck, it’s already out there in the palms of some of the worlds biggest bloggers and has been reviewed pretty extensively. What we hadn’t seen until today, was any official announcement of a dual core . The technology was announced quite some time ago and isn’t particulalry new or exciting when you consider even the most basic laptop or netbook you buy these days will be running a dual core processor; but it is a whole new dimension and the start of a new ‘breed’ of smartphone.
The first official dual core smartphone comes from our Korean friends LG, you guessed it, another new addition to the Family - The LG Optimus 2X. Now, this isn’t the usual mid-range handset you’d expect, inside you’ll find the 1GHz Dual Core Tegra 2 chipset, which doesn’t sound that great when you consider that there are already smartphones running similar clock speeds and have been doing so for quite some time, but (and it’s quite a big but here) the dual core Tegra 2 processor can handle full 1080p Video Playback (HDMI Out) and is set to be the first in the world to do so. It gets better, the LG Optimus 2X will also trump any video recording capabilities of any smartphone on the market currently, thanks to its ability to record in 1080p too!
The Optimus 2X has been described as a “brutally fast, overpowered reality” and rightly so, when you consider that it’ll be running FroYo on release with an update to GingerBread on the cards, potentially meaning even more speed! Other specs include a 8 megapixel camera + 1.3 megapixel front facing camera (compatible with GingerBread), 8GB internal storage, a 4inch WVGA screen (we assume capacitive) and what LG describe as a ‘hefty’ 1500mAh battery (which isn’t any larger than batteries offered on some single core smartphones), so it’ll be interesting to see how well the battery holds up through a full days use; it’s certainly going to put the revised Android power management in Gingerbread to the test!
The 2X is said to be available in early 2011 so keep an eye on the blog for updates about availability. In the meantime, what do you think about the Optimus 2X? Has it got you interested or has it left you with slight reservations, perhaps concerns about battery life? Let us know in the comments section below!
(pictured left) is the latest release from BlackBerry looking to penetrate the fiercely competitive market; a segment of the market which has grown exponentially in the last twelve months, so much so that it is now recognised as a market of its own.
This is not the first time that BlackBerry have attempted to enter this market however, two previous models in the form of the Storm and Storm 2 (pictured below) looked to try and grab a piece of the market albeit quite unsuccessfully, largely due to their unique and quite unusual piezo ‘clickable’ touchscreens which received very mixed reviews.
The Torch on the other hand, really distances itself from the Storm; it is first slider incorporating both a touchscreen and a physical QWERTY keyboard, essentially ‘the best of both worlds’. It is a concept that puts the Torch in quite a large bit of ‘middle ground’ sitting between the / of this world and BlackBerry’s own Curve/Bold series. It creates an interesting debate as to whether the need for such a device exists, but if early sales figures and reviews are any reflection on the future, then it certainly looks as though the Torch will be lighting the way.
The reason for the encouraging reviews is quite clear when you look in a bit more detail at the specifications of this device; a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen capable of displaying 16 million colours at a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels, a full QWERTY keyboard, 4GB of internal storage, microSD support, microUSB port, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 5 megapixel camera and of course, the latest iteration of BlackBerry software – OS 6.0 which has been heavily optimised for touchscreen use.
Of course, as with any BlackBerry, the real attraction of the Torch is the exceptional push email services and BlackBerry Messenger; features which will essentially let you instantly message any other BlackBerry user, anywhere in the world. There is also access to third party applications thanks to BlackBerry Appworld, BlackBerry’s answer to the App Store in which you’ll find a huge selection of games and applications ranging from horoscopes to Sudoku and everything in between.
Aside from all of the features and specifications mentioned above, the Torch is quite possibly the best looking addition to the with its compact looking design and sleek curves it really is a good looking phone from any angle and is a welcome break from the usual smartphone form factor adopted by the likes of , , et al.
It’s been much rumoured and a long time coming, but it seems is about to be knocked from it’s top spot by this, the Sony Ericsson (X12) Anzu. True to form, have stuck with the Japanese/Spiritually themed names (Yari, Sprio, Aino, Satio - you get the picture) with the meaning of Anzu seemingly pointing towards being a God from Akkadian Mythology who breathes both fire and water and has the head of a lion and the body of an Eagle. Mythology lesson aside, the literal meaning of ‘Anzu’ in Japanese is an Apricot; which isn’t really going to tell us much about this phone.
So lets take a look at what we do know; the Anzu is said to be running 2.2 FroYo upon release (although currently running 2.1 Eclair) with an update to GingerBread 3.0 in Summer ‘11. It is also said to house an 800 MHz processor, a 4.3″ WVGA ‘X.LED’ screen (multi-touch support included this time!) Wi-Fi , an HDMI port and a standard 3.5mm jack.
It’s also reported that the X12 will be between 8.7mm and 10.9mm thick as well as the inclusion of an impressive 1500 mAH battery. In the camera department, we’re told that the fire breathing, lion headed Anzu will be sporting either a 12 megapixel or 8.1 megapixel camera (more likely the latter in our opinion) and will be capable of recording in 720p HD quality. What do you think, has the Anzu got you interested? Can the Anzu compete the with and of this world? Let us know in the comments section below.
Both of these handsets have been a long time coming, much rumoured and highly anticipated. That’s why, with great pleasure, we can announce that from today you can buy both of these handsets, here at .
The QWERTY touting, Android powered has been talked about and had more leaks in it’s time than a sinking ship, but it’s here and for those that missed our coverage of the Desire Z here’s a little run down of what you can expect. As previously mentioned, the Desire Z is a QWERTY touting device powered by Google’s latest iteration - 2.2 Froyo. Aside from, there’s also an 800 MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 1.5 GB internal memory, a 3.7 inch capacitive touchscreen, GPS, HSPDA and a 5 megapixel camera with HD Video recording to boot. Interested? Of course you are, for more information.
If a is more your cup of tea, then the flagship could be just what you’re looking for. Of course, the obligatory QWERTY keyboard is present, as is the optical track pad and iconic BlackBerry styling. Where the Bold 9780 starts to differ from its predecessor however is, well, pretty much everything inside. The most noteable change is the addition of BlackBerry’s brand spanking new Operating System (BlackBerry 6 OS) which simplifies the BlackBerry experience and just makes general use of the Bold far more intuitive. Other noteable specs are a 5 megapixel camera with flash and a full accompaniment of connectivity options. Click Here for more information about the New Bold.
That’s right folks, they’ve been a long time coming, but as of right now you can order yourself either of these incredible new right here at mobiles.co.uk.

You may remember, back when we brought you the details of the officially announced and , that we also detailed a brand new online support service which would join the two new handsets; HTCSense.com. Well, this service is now live, albeit a little prematurely considering the two handsets are still only available on Pre-order.
What will HTCSense.com allow you to do? Well, here’s a full breakdown:
- Find My Phone - Does exactly what it says on the tin. If you’ve misplaced your phone, you can get it to play a loud ringer, even if it’s set to silent, in order to help you find it. It will also allow you to pin point the location of your phone on a map using GPS, lock your phone, forward calls/texts, send a retrieval message and to erase the contents of your phone should the worst come to worst.
- SMS Storage - Again, quite self explanatory, but HTCSense.com will allow you to back-up all of your text messages, re-load them onto another device and also to send/recive text messages from your desktop.
- Contact Manager - Which will back-up and synchronise your contacts, as well as editing information and adding photos. An essential piece of functionality for anyone considering switching phones.
- Navigation and Footprints - allows your computer to acces your phones GPS functionality to find saved locations on Google Maps.
- App Store - will provide a a list of tested and reviewed applications, making your decisions easier and will also let you share these with friends.
So far, if you haven’t already got your order in for a or , be sure to head on over and do it now, to avoid dissappointment when these handsets finally land!
According to an analyst from the Kaufman Brothers, Shaw Wu, Apple are reportedly working on two versions of a new ; the information is said to come from a contact within Apples iPhone supply chain. It has been said that Apple will produce another “perfectly sized” (Steve Jobs words, not ours) 3.5 inch screen device as well as an entry level smaller device. We can almost categorically say that this will not happen, the words entry level and Apple are words which have never been seen before in the same sentence. And if Apple CEO Steve Jobs has his way, they never will.
simply do not want to operate in an entry-level market, their entire product offering is made up of high margin, aspirational products. A move into entry level offerings by Apple would completely undermine the brand image that has been built over the years, in the same way that Ferrari’s would, if they were to start selling cheap family hatchbacks. It’s just not going to happen. What do you think? Does the increasing threat from neccessitate a more diverse offering, or should Apple continue in their age old fashion?
